He then dragged us into a merchandise tangent. Stay tuned for more on that. Scott via Fireside Scott uses Snaps on his Debian server. On the desktop he mostly sticks to Appimages and Flatpaks. Dan from Matrix Dan seldom uses Snaps and has them near the bottom of his ranking. The last one he remembers using is the Nextcloud snap on an Ubuntu server. chraist also on Matrix chraist uses Void and doesn't have Systemd therefore doesn't use Snaps. He asked if we thought there would ever be a Snap solution without Systemd. bgt from Matrix bgt says "meh, snaps aren't really that worth it to be honest. If there was no flatpak, sure, but like this, there's no need." Marshman from Discord Marshman thinks Snaps are a handy delivery method for proprietary applications. 🧹Housekeeping🧹 Catch these and other great topics as they unfold on our Subreddit or our News channel on Discord. * 🗞️ Linux User Space Lemmy (https://lemmy.linuxuserspace.show) * 📰 Linux User Space subreddit (https://linuxuserspace.show/reddit) * ⌨️ Linux User Space Discord Server (https://linuxuserspace.show/discord) * 📲 Linux User Space Telegram (https://linuxuserspace.show/telegram) * ✉️ Linux User Space Matrix (https://linuxuserspace.show/matrix) * 📽️ Linux User Space Twitch (https://linuxuserspace.show/twitch) * 🐘 Linux User Space Mastodon (https://linuxuserspace.show/mastodon) * 📜 Linux User Space Twitter (https://linuxuserspace.show/twitter) * 📺️ Linux User Space TILVids (https://linuxuserspace.show/tilvids) * 📱 Linux User Space Bluesky (https://linuxuserspace.show/bluesky) 🔭Next Time🔭 We plan to cover the history of Flatpaks. Mozilla chimed in (https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2016/04/21/firefox-default-browser-for-linux-users-ubuntu-new-snap-format-coming-soon/) with their support. Snap expanded its compatibility to the likes of Arch (https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2016/06/snap-to-be-universal-linux-package-format) and Fedora (https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/[email protected]/thread/IMI5TP2K6A6R7PSIOUBLOE62ENIZDXOA/). xdg-app rebrands as Flatpak (https://flatpak.org/press/2016-06-21-flatpak-released/) as a Snap competitor.
