On February 27th, 2018, 8 year old
Gabriel Cruz disappeared during a short 100-metre walk from his grandmother's
house to his cousin’s. What began as a simple trip turned into one of Spain's
most shocking and horrific murder cases.
Over 12 days, 5,000 people,
including Gabriel’s father’s girlfriend, Ana Julia Quezada, joined the search.
But no one suspected she was hiding a terrifying secret. On March 11th,
Gabriel’s body was found in Ana Julia’s car. She had murdered him, buried him,
and then moved his body. She was sentenced to life in prison but the story
didn’t end there.
Without laws to prevent criminals
from profiting off their crimes, Ana Julia sold the rights to her story,
sparking massive public outrage across Spain. Calls for justice and a change to
the legal system spread with the slogan #TodosSomosGabriel.

Today’s case is about the unsolved murder of Mexican Musician Chalino Sanchez who was handed his own death note, live on stage. Later that night, Chalino was kidnapped by alleged Police and by the morning, he’d be found dead.
Chalino Sanchez was crowned the King of Corridos and is the idol of many musicians today, including Peso Pluma, who in 2023 went viral after receiving his own death note.
The message warned Peso Pluma that if he performed his upcoming concert in Tijuana, it would be his last. It had been sent by a Cartel over his song ‘El Gavilán’, that he’d made with Luis R Conriquez and Tony Aguirre. The lyrics complimented El Chapo, which enraged the cartel.
But after Peso Pluma received a death note over a bad lyric, theories behind Chalino’s unsolved murder were re-ignited across the internet.
Corrido music is about love, hardship and crime. Narcocorrido is specifically about the life of narcos. Chalino Sanchez lived a crazy life full of revenge, drug trafficking, coyotes, and music. And it’s Chalino’s music that may be the reason for his early death.
Decades on Chalino’s music has millions of fans and plays on Spotify, with his image being blasted across the Coachella Mainstage in 2023 thanks to Peso Pluma.

In 2008, 23-year-old Norwegian student Martine Vik Magnussen was killed after a night out in Mayfair. In the early morning following her murder, the man responsible, Farouk Abdulhak fled the UK to Yemen.
Farouk Abdulhak is the son of one of Yemen’s richest and most powerful men For nearly 15 years, he hasn't left the country and has lived in luxurious hotels, protected by his father's power.
The British government has tried to extradite him to the UK to face justice, but Yemeni law continues to protect him, as there is no extradition treaty with the UK.
In 2011, BBC reporter Nawal Al-Maghafi tracked Farouk down and befriended him on Snapchat. After gaining his trust, Farouk confessed to killing Martine but claimed it was an accident resulting from rough sex gone wrong.
Today, Farouk remains trapped behind his wall of wealth, privilege, and power, while Martine's family and friends are still waiting for him to be brought to justice.

Today's case is Sanda Dia, a clever, and ambitious young man, had his life tragically cut short during a brutal hazing ritual in 2018. Sanda was attempting to join an elite, wealthy, and predominantly white fraternity called Reuzegom at KU Leuven in Belgium. For nearly 48 hours, he endured unimaginable torture. This case revealed the harsh reality of how racism, classism, and privilege allowed the 18 members involved to avoid serious punishment. The Belgian courts' decision sparked outrage and raised serious questions about whether money always wins when it comes to justice. In 2020, when the Black Lives Matter movement began, calls for justice for Sanda Dia erupted across university campuses in Belgium and the Netherlands. Angered by the trial's verdict, YouTuber Acid exposed the identities of the 18 boys involved. But, his punishment ended up being greater than what was given to those responsible for Sanda's death.
